Heads of world Regulatory Authorities to promote affordable broadband access
The eighth annual global symposium of regulators to be held during 11-13 March 2008 is being organized by ITU and NTC Thailand. Over 100 regulators from around the world are expected to attend the event.
 
The main goals are:
  • liberalizing international gateways

  • opening access to submarine cable networks

  • passive sharing of mobile towers and rights of way for fibre backbones to reach rural users

  • balancing reduced costs through promotion of active and passive network sharing in a competitive environment to provide real consumer choices

  • goals and role of functional separation

  • regulating international mobile roaming rates

  • improving spectrum practices to promote IMT services

  • sharing end user devices and innovative applications in developing countries

  • addressing new regulatory issues raised by IPTV and mobile broadcasting
